Hurricane Harvey and Children

Hurricane Harvey is one of the largest natural disasters in U.S. history. According to recent reports, almost 50 inches of rain have fallen in Houston. Approximately 30,000 people are in shelters with over 40% being children. Over 1 million children could be affected in weeks and months to come.

Children are the most vulnerable in natural disasters. According to the AAP children need safety-approved cribs, children’s clothing of various sizes, formula and bottles, water, baby food, and feeding utensils. They need age appropriate toys and books.

Consider donating to organizations like the Texas Diaper Bank, Save the Children, and Houston United Way. Portlight Strategies works with individuals with disabilities.
